HCBs - Homemade Chemical Bombs

Disclaimer: I have not tried to build any of these myself and don't personally know anyone who has.
Warning: Possession of explosives homemade or otherwise, are illegal in the United States unless you have a license.

Post: This post is in response to some who have over the course of this blog asked me to explore explosive devices.

These range from a simple smoke bomb to teargas to something deadly.

Background on HCB:
Homemade Chemical Bombs (HCBs) are easily constructed out of every-day materials and chemicals. Toilet bowl cleaner or drain cleaner and tin foil mixed in a capped soda pop bottle are among the most common, and perhaps the most toxic, combination of materials. The mixture of isopropyl alcohol and chlorine or dry-ice and warm water and mixed in a capped water bottle yield a similar result.
A study found a total of 29 HCB events occurred from January 1, 1993 to March 31, 2003. The majority of HCB events, 83%, occurred during 2000-2003 and had associated explosions. Three events were responsible for producing injuries to 26 persons. Further analysis revealed that in 2 of the 3 events that produced injury, the person making the bomb became a victim. Sodium hypochlorite, sodium hydroxide, hydrochloric acid, and otherwise unspecified acids were among the chemicals used. A total of 18 events occurred on school property and at least 22 (76%) HCBs were made by juveniles.

For this to be effective as a WMD large quantities of various agents would be needed, thus when large quantities of chemicals of any kind are purchased, a license is needed and the items sold are supposed to be flagged by federal authorities.
